Data collection arrangements
The Liverpool Ocular Oncology Biobank (OOB) collects biosamples from consenting patients with eye cancer who initially attend the regional specialist Liverpool Ocular Oncology Centre, Royal Liverpool University Hospital NHS Trust. By collecting eye tissues and surrounding ocular fluids, and blood samples that are not required for the clinical assessment/management of the disease, a unique collection from these rare tumours can be consolidated. Clinical, pathological and follow-up data associated with each sample are also collected and recorded. This is a collaborative effort between surgeons, theatre staff, nurses, pathologists, and researchers.
Research programme
The Ocular Oncology Biobank (OOB) provides a high quality resource from which researchers can draw substantial linked collections of biosamples and associated clinical data. This ensures that the basic and clinical research questions necessary to improve the healthcare of eye cancer patients are investigated thoroughly and in a timely manner. Biosamples and data held within the OOB support on-going research in the University of Liverpool, Ocular Oncology Research Group, and are also made available to other researchers and Companies worldwide investigating the biology and treatment of eye cancers.
