Research summary
Conscious sedation promises to reduce distress to anxious adult dental patients as well as facilitating their dental treatment. In the department of sedation and special care dentistry clinicians utilise a variety of conscious sedation techniques. The choice of sedation made at the assessment appointments depends upon the patients individual anxiety levels and the types of dental treatment they are having.
There is a need for this research because limited amounts of relevant data is available on the patient, operator and sedationist experiences of dental conscious sedation.
This study will help to capture and record data that is currently not being reported. The aim is to carry out research which focuses on improving patient care.
