  • Research summary

Around 1 in 7 couples may have difficulty conceiving. When couples attend a fertility clinic, they are asked questions regarding various lifestyle factors that could potentially be affecting their fertility; for example, alcohol consumption, smoking and body mass index. However, there is no current detailed information gathered regarding habitual physical activity and exercise and no advice is given from fertility clinics regarding the optimal amount of exercise that will increase the likelihood of conception. Exercise type, amount and intensity will be varied between patients, but may affect fertility. This study will objectively measure habitual physical activity and exercise habits of patients attending the fertility clinic at Liverpool Women`s Hospital using exercise monitoring devices. We hope, with the information gathered by measuring physical activity and exercise, that this will guide a trial using exercise /physical activity to enhance fertility.
