Research summary
Obesity is linked to potential curable diseases complicating health and quality of life(QoL). The increasing incidence is concerning globally/UK/Scotland. Surgical operations provide weight-loss and lead to wellbeing benefits e.g. improving diabetes remission. This PhD focuses on cohort of obese adults referred for bariatric surgery with follow up. The study population will be divided into two groups those who had/did not have surgery. The study will investigate groups in relation to a range of specific key health issues. Retrospective data will be collated from the Bariatric & Metabolic department database and statistically analysed. Modelling will be carried out to determine the factors that may influence outcomes for future prediction system that can be used to optimise the benefit for patients.
