  • Research summary

To undertake a qualitative analysis of a wholly nurse-led chest pain clinic, undertaken by the student and colleagues, thereby improving our understanding of the patient experience. A chest pain clinic devoid of physician input is rare but becoming more prevalent. I propose to contact a group of patients who attended the clinic in a given month (approx. 25 patients) inviting to attend for phenomenological interviewing. Patients will be split in to two groups: Those reassured and discharged after first attendance, and those who went on to have further diagnostic testing. The aim is to interview three or four patients from each group to compare experiences and perceptions of a service which previously would have been undertaken by physicians, but is now completely nurse-led. Also, I would like to analyse the demographics of referrals to the service, in terms of: Age, gender, race, and reason for referral. This will give us a clearer picture of who is being referred to the clinic, and why.
