  • Research summary

We will recruit 20 patients with frequent NREM parasomnias over a period of 12 months and study them on a single occasion. We would also like to recruit the bed partners of these patients, so the maximum number of participants in the study will be 40. No intervention will be given during the period of assessment. Consecutive patients with frequent NREM parasomnias will be identified from the sleep clinic at Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. Patients may also be identified during admission for polysomnography for NREM parasomnia. After identification patients who have a bed partner will be asked if they wish their bed partner to be included in the study. With obtained consent, we will invite the bed partner to participate.
We aim to recruit 20 patients and 20 bed partners over a period of 12 months and study them over a three week period convenient to them with both wrist accelerometer and home video. During the study time, participants will be visited twice by a member of the research team – once to deliver the recording equipment and also sleep diaries and once to collect the equipment. Depending on participant preference they may fill out daily sleep diaries online or by pen and paper.
