Research summary
The study will focus on people over the age of 40, both men and women. Stage one will involve contacting individuals who have returned questionnaires for the Nottingham Pain Study and who have agreed to be involved in future research. A questionnaire asking about foot pain will be posted to 1121 people. In the questionnaire, there will be a series of questions on foot pain and how this affects day to day living. There will also be questions on footwear and lower limb alignment.
In stage two, 100 men who completed the foot pain questionnaire will be invited to attend for clinical assessment of the feet. Tests will be carried out on people’s feet to understand how the form and condition of people’s feet may be linked to foot pain and arthritis. X-rays of people’s feet will also be taken to help understand what condition the joints are in and if they have arthritis.
