Data collection arrangements
a. Data from patients who have had major vascular surgery (carotid endarterectomy, abdominal aortic aneurysm repair and amputation), cardiothoracic surgery or have been admitted to general intensive care in the North West of England and Wales will be collected. From before the operation, standard observations (Blood pressure, heart rate) and patient identifiable information will be recorded. Then operation details and real-time data from the monitoring on the intensive care will be recorded. This data will be collected by the patient care team and sent securely to the North-west Clinical Outcomes Research Registry team. Here patient ID will be separated from the medical data and both will be stored separately in a database safely on the NHS network. Biannually, patients will be followed up to check for related re-admissions and death.
Research programme
Data from this database will be used to build risk models for predicting risks for patients undergoing major vascular surgery, cardiothoracic surgery or admitted to general intensive care. The information generated by this database will help inform patients and doctors who have to make difficult decisions surrounding treatment choice and timings. The program will support cardiothoracic surgery , vascular surgery and critical care research
