Research summary
We aim to devise a safe and feasible clinical method of determining a patient's cardiovascular responsiveness to exogenous norepinephrine. This will be done in a single centre Intensive Care Unit, recruiting patients with a primary diagnosis of septic or inflammatory shock. These patients will be sedated, and mechanically ventilated with a norepinephrine requirement to support blood pressure. We aim to recruit 30 patients over a period of 6 months. Devising this clinical method will allow us to, in future studies, find management strategies that overall improve the cardiovascular responsiveness of patients with septic or inflammatory shock.
