  • Research summary

This is a feasibility study into the use of non-contact health monitoring to support in-patient dementia care. The research question is to establish whether or not non-contact monitoring can provide remote indications of patient state. The primary objectives are: i) to assess and improve the performance of the technology in the inpatient dementia ward setting by reviewing measured vital signs and in/out of bed location at a sample of monitored times; and ii) to gain an understanding of staff perceptions of the technology in this setting using semi-structured interviews and focus groups. The secondary objective is to use the data collected to develop new functionality, or improve existing functionality, of the Oxehealth system to best support care in this setting. The study intervention involves non-contact camera-based monitoring equipment collecting data within patient’s private rooms and from those who have consented to take part in the study. The monitoring data will not replace usual patient care and safety processes and will therefore be an adjunct to treatment as usual (TAU).
