This pilot randomised placebo-controlled clinical trial will be looking at the effect of a neuromuscular stimulation device in patients who are recovering from general surgery or vascular surgery operations. Patients will be randomised to either the standard rehabilitation and active NMES device group (group A) or the standard rehabilitation and sham NMES device group (Group B). The feasibility and acceptance of the device will be assessed in addition to the effect on length of stay and physical fitness measures.
