Research summary
A qualitative study using focus groups and individual interviews to explore the sensory and emotional experiences of patients who were nil by mouth (NBM) during their ICU or acute care (medical/surgical) admission. Thematic analysis will be used on transcribed discussions to better understand the patient experience and individual challenges, so as to inform future patient-centred interventions to alleviate distress.
