Data collection arrangements
Routinely collected clinical data will be stored. Each collaborating organisation will collect data from clinical systems used in their routine patient care.
Each organisation will collate data in an internal data warehouse according to the NIHR HIC data specification, or data model. The local data warehouse will store information in an identifiable form, and will have the capabilities to de-identify data according to NIHR HIC approved guidelines prior to it being shared for use in research. The de-identified version is for use in research and shared with the central research database, via Secure File Transfer Protocol (SFTP)Research programme
In 2015-16, NHIR HIC lung cancer theme was identified as an additional theme for the NIHR HIC programme. Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust (ICHT) BRC, which agreed to lead the lung cancer project jointly with University College London Hospitals NHS Trust (UCLH) BRC from the existing HIC partners, invited Royal Brompton & Harefield NHS Foundation Trust (RBH) and Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust (RMH) to join the project. The NW London clinical team for the lung cancer project (Mr Eric Lim (RBH), Dr Sanjay Popat (RMH) and Professor Michael Seckl (ICHT)) agreed a research question (non-smoking lung cancer) and the associated dataset (n=13 variables) to be collected. In addition, NIHR HIC partners agreed to collect a larger data set, all of which is routinely collected (e.g. includes COSD, SACT, SCTS and RTDS) and will be stored in the research database.
