  • Data collection arrangements

We are aiming to develop a tissue resource which will include additional
biopsies, and additional blood, urine and/or stool samples from patients to
support research activities of gastroenterology clinicians in NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, in collaboration with academic and industry partners. Where
appropriate patients may be requested to donate additional blood and/or biopsy
samples. The relevant Participant Information leaflets and Participant Consent
Forms for the extra tissues are included in this application.

Additional tissue to be requested includes:

Blood + derivatives (eg  whole blood, plasma, serum, buffy coat, ascitic fluid)
Intestinal biopsy (taken at endoscopic procedure)
    Urine
    Faeces
    Saliva
    Hair follicle

Additional tissue collected may be used directly in research projects or banked
    for future use.
Material banked may be snap frozen and stored at low temperature or fixed and
stored as a formalin fixed paraffin block. Derivatives from the above may also
be used to produce DNA, protein and RNA extractions which may be stored for
    research.

Tissue Micro Arrays (TMAs) may also be constructed from the tissue fixed paraffinblock tissue resources.

  • Research programme

The NHSGGC Biorepository has a fair and open access policy. Research  organisations that may request access to stored samples or request a new  collection include Universities, Research Institutions and commercial  organisations (e.g. Pharmaceutical and Biotech companies).  Applications for tissue from the NHS GG&C Gastroenterology Researchers Tissue Bioresource will be reviewed and authorised by the NHS GG&C Biorepository review panel with guidance where appropriate from the Gastroenterology Research Steering Group.
