Research summary
A diabetes prevention programme for England, now known as the NHS Diabetes Prevention Programme (NHS DPP) was envisioned in the NHS Five Year Forward View. The NHS DPP includes risk assessment and intensive lifestyle intervention. The programme aims to prevent or delay the onset of type 2 diabetes in individuals at high-risk. The development and implementation of the NHS DPP is planned to take place in phases, starting with a demonstrator site phase. In the demonstrator site phase aspects of the NHS DPP will be implemented in several localities across England. Evaluation of the NHS DPP demonstrator site phase will inform the future development of the programme. As part of the demonstrator site phase evaluation we plan to conduct interviews and focus groups with a range of stakeholders. We aim to find out about stakeholder views of the programme. We will use established research methods for this qualitative evaluation. We aim to include a wide range of different stakeholders in interviews or focus groups including NHS DPP delivery staff, service users and health care professionals.
