Research summary
This study investigates the use of an innovative psychological therapy called Method of Levels (MOL) for people using early intervention in psychosis teams. Psychosis is a broad term that refers to experiences such as hearing and seeing things that others cannot, or holding beliefs that others find strange or difficult to understand. Early intervention teams are specialist mental health services set up to support people in the early stages of experiencing psychosis.
MOL has already been shown to be helpful for people experiencing a wide range of different mental health difficulties. This research aims to answer three specific questions:1. Is Method of Levels (MOL) an acceptable psychological intervention for people experiencing a first episode of psychosis?
2. Is it feasible to deliver MOL to people experiencing a first episode of psychosis who are using early intervention services?
3. Are adaptations necessary to overcome problems or barriers to the implementation of MOL in early intervention services?
We aim to recruit 36 people who are currently using early intervention services. Half of the participants will receive their usual care, and the other half will receive Method of Levels therapy in addition to their usual care. We will interview people at the end of treatment to find out what it was like to be involved in the study.
