Research summary
Low back pain is the leading cause of disability in the UK in both 1990 and 2010 and is increasing over time. Several treatments are available but not all have been shown to work effectively. Some of these treatments are invasive and can involve surgery. Non-invasive treatments are becoming more popular due to less chance of harm and lower costs.
This study looks at the use of Photobiomodulation Therapy in chronic nonspecific lower back pain which will be delivered over a short term. The study will recruit 52 patients with chronic nonspecific low back pain. The study will be conducted at The James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough.
The study will run for a total of 28 months, with patient’s being on the study for a total of 3 months. The study treatment will be delivered over 4 subsequent weeks with a 3 month follow up. Patients will be expected to complete questionnaires and diaries whilst on the study to review pain and quality of life.REC name
