Research summary
The objective of this study is to evaluate saliva for periodontal disease biomarkers. This approach will be applied to samples collected from periodontally healthy volunteers, those with gingivitis and periodontitis and edentulous controls, in order to validate a panel of biomarkers that will distinguish between healthy and diseased states. This may lead to development of a near-patient diagnostic tool for periodontal disease.
