Samples will be obtained from adults who have or are participating in research studies within NDDC BRU (Healthy Volunteers & Patients) and also from those patients attending clinics as part of their standard clinical care - The following consented sample types will be collected and stored:
Plasma, Sera, Urine, Stool, whole blood, DNA, RNA.
We also plan to collect, store and use any surplus liver tissue from patients that have had liver resection or biopsy samples taken as part of their clinical care – samples will take the form of fresh, frozen or wax embedded blocks and include any archived paraffin sections taken previously as part of clinical care.
Consent will be sought for samples to be stored long-term and used in future-research studies. Routinely collected NHS data and basic demographics such as age, sex, BMI will be recorded.
Consented samples/tissue will be stored in a -80 freezer within the NDDC BRU, E Floor, QMC, under HTA licence: 12265Research programme
Researchers within The Nottingham Digestive Diseases Centre Biomedical Research Unit will have access to this resource of samples in order to test new hypotheses in pilot studies and develop new technologies in developing patient treatments. The bank will facilitate research within the unit; facilitating quicker effective investigations and translation of new clinical research hypotheses.
