Research summary
Many patients with memory problems assessed in the neurology-led memory clinic do not have dementia or another neurodegenerative or neurological cause of their memory problems. At present, this group accounts for approximately 50% of people seen in the memory clinic. Around one half of these patients have memory complaints due to low mood and depression (Depressive pseudodementia, DPD) and one half have Functional Memory Disorder (FMD). We would like to explore the natural history of patients with DPD and FMD and review the clinical notes and initial cognitive screening results to see if any features are more common in FMD and DPD.
Primary Aims
1. Determine the natural history of FMD and DPD.
2. Investigate the subjective memory complaint profile of patients with FMD and DPD.
3. Explore whether the brief cognitive screens provide a typical pattern for DPD and FMDREC name
