Data collection arrangements
In order to enable epidemiological analysis, data for UK workers occupationally exposed to ionising radiation are collated and stored in a secure, password protected computer system. This includes information on age, gender and occupational exposure to radiation as well as detail of cause of death and cancer incidence. The data is collated from existing employer-held records and from national registries.
Research programme
Epidemiological analysis of persons exposed to ionising radiation provides unique knowledge which leads to health protection for workers and for the public. This database provides information which supports international evidenced-based assessment of risk; a number of peer-reviewed publications are already available in the scientific press.
