  • Data collection arrangements

    List NBSR forms

Data will be collected by healthcare professionals who form part of the routine care team looking after patients. As part of the pre-operative information giving and consent process, patients will be asked by their healthcare provider if they consent to this information being stored securely and used for measuring clinical outcomes and research purposes. Patients will receive a combined information and consent form explaining the NBSR.

  • Research programme

The National Bariatric Surgery Registry is the largest dataset in the UK recording outcomes from Bariatric surgery (also known as weight loss surgery or metabolic surgery). The Registry supports patients and healthcare workers with accurate data on outcomes from this type of surgery in the UK. This is important to inform decisions about surgery, giving measures of risk and clinical outcomes. Using this data for research purposes would improve our understanding about who might benefit the most from surgery, or what type of treatments work best for certain patients.
