  • Data collection arrangements

    Blood samples (along with their extracted DNA, RNA, Peripheral Blood Mononuclear Cells (PBMC), serum & plasma) and urine samples will be stored at the Centre for Integrated Genomic Medical Research unit (CIGMR), located within the University of Manchester's Stopford Building. In the UK DNA Banking Network ISO 9001:2000 accredited Containment Level 2 lab, Freezer 32 (-20).

    Muscle biopsies will be stored within the Department of Osteoarticular Pathology, Floor 1, Room 1.583, also located within the University of Manchester's Stopford Building.

    Custodianship of the bank will be held by Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust, although the storage of samples will be subcontracted to The University of Manchester, and will be held under the University's Human Tissue Authority Licence.

    Tissue bank data will be stored on Salford Royal Trust computers that are encrypted and password protected. Additionally an anonymised version of this data will be astored on a secure online web based database.

  • Research programme

    The bank would be used for research into myositis. This condition is rare and there is a genuine need for collaborative and multi-centre research to generate sufficient sample sizes for research into the pathogenesis and underlying disease process of this condition.
