Data collection arrangements
We are collecting samples and clinical information from patients with melanoma and their families, to learn more about how melanomas develop, how the disease responds to treatment and what causes some people to experience side effects. Samples of blood, saliva, stool and tumour will be collected and held in Oxford. Information about participants' health will be gathered from NHS databases and through questionnaires. Details will be held in a secure database on the cloud and linked to the analysis of the samples collected.
Participants will be invited by advertisement and through melanoma clinics and learn bout the study through the MyMelanoma website. Consent to participation will be obtained electronically through the website, according to what type of melanoma and what type of treatment each person is having.Research programme
Our aim is to provide a large cohort of participants willing to share their melanoma information and samples with researchers around the world. We want to build on the terrific advances in melanoma treatment in the last few years by understanding better who benefits from which treatment and when. We also want to understand better how melanoma develops and to explore what being on treatment means for patients and their families. We are particularly keen that the priorities for this research are set by our participants, not just by researchers.
