Research summary
This is a non-randomised trial of My Health Guide. This is a tablet (like an iPad) app for people with learning disabilities, and web interface, which enables individuals to receive, share and manage information about their health. My Health Guide and a tablet will be provided to approximately 200 users in the NHS and non-NHS provider organisations. \nThere will be two groups of ’prime users’:\n1. Adults with learning disabilities who may use My Health Guide independently or with support\n2. Families/formal carers who use My Health Guide to receive and share information on behalf of a person with learning disabilities, who is unable to use this themselves. \nThe research will use mixed methods to explore:\n- The structures, processes and contexts underpinning the design and delivery of My Health Guide\n- The usage of My Health Guide\n- The experiences of those who use it. \nData will be collected from the following sources:\n- Interviews with the project group involved in the design and delivery of My Health Guide\n- Analysis of usage data collected by the software provider\n- A survey which will be sent to all prime users\n- Interviews with selected prime users\n- Health practitioner focus groups\n- A focus group for provider managers and carers\n- Detailed case studies of selected participants. \nThe data will enable an exploration of the experiences of those who have used My Health Guide, and the identification of factors associated with positive outcomes, which should be included in any future plans to extend the use of My Health Guide, and any changes indicated. \nThe trial is funded by the Small Business Research Initiative Healthcare, and is being undertaken by Maldaba (the software company which designed My Health Guide), the Humber Foundation NHS Trust and the University of Hull.
