Research summary
The aim of this study is to assess a range of quantitative MRI and ultrasound measurement techniques for the assessment of muscle pathology. The feasibility and range of variation will be determined for each technique in each diagnostic group. In addition, the reproducibility of shearwave elastography, and its sensitivity and specificity for diagnosis will be calculated.
This data will provide useful information about the best MRI and ultrasound techniques for diagnosis and suitable threshold values. The data will also inform the choice of techniques and power calculations for future longitudinal studies and studies of the effects of treatment.
