  • Data collection arrangements

Precursor lesions diagnosed in the genital tract and anus have the potential to progress to cancer in a small number of cases. We wish to collect and store anonymised data on the characteristics of patients who attend the clinic (e.g. age, gender, other health conditions) as well as the grade, number and extent of the precursor lesions, the findings of related investigations and the outcome of treatment and monitoring. This is intended to be used to identify risk factors that could be modified to prevent progression to cancer, and to improve the treatments and monitoring pathways that are currently in use.

  • Research programme

The Multifocal intra-epithelial neoplasia (MuFIN) clinic is attended by patients with anal or gynaecological precursor lesions and is therefore applicable to a wide range of patients for whom the current literature on progression to cancer from similar populations within the United Kingdom is limited. This database is intended to address this issue and will provide data on strategies to reduce the risk of progression to cancer that will be relevant to the patient and the doctors providing their care.
