Research summary
To identify the underlying conditions that support and influence treatment decision-making in MS, the MS-DOUBT study represents stage three of an ongoing PhD. The previous two stages highlighted a difference in approaches to therapy. This is of concern because those who have identified with decisional conflict have potentially unmet clinical needs. As the preceding research was primarily researcher-led and quantitative in nature, the sources of conflict remain unclear. Moving forward, a cohort of newly identified patients with a spectrum of decisional conflict will be interviewed independently and as part of focus groups. Those with the highest decisional conflict will be targeted as well as those with low decisional conflict; the latter to explore if decisional regret and conflict has occurred in the past and how it might be resolved.
