Research summary
I intend to use a real time MRI facility based in London to conduct MRI scanning of 3 adult male subjects. The scan will be focused around their vocal tracts and the purpose is to investigate the movement of speech articulation organs during Arabic speech production. My subjects will read a prepared script in the MRI scanner tailored to investigate the topics of interest. At the moment there is very limited research available explaining articulation of speech in Arabic using MRI studies and the purpose of the study is to explore this. This will contribute to knowledge within the international phonetics community. The study is expected to last until October 2019 and is funded by the School of Arabic Language Studies which is a not-for-profit organisation.
