Research summary
In chronic liver disease, scar tissue replaces normal liver tissue. We currently measure the degree of scarring in the liver by doing a liver biopsy. This involves taking a small sample of liver tissue to be assessed under a microscope. This procedure is invasive, and involves a small but significant risk.
in Nottingham, we have developed new MRI techniques that can measure liver scarring and inflammation non-invasively. In this project, we would like to study new MRI technique called MR Elastograpy. This involves giving the liver external vibration and measuring the stiffness of the liver. We believe this technique can improve the diagnosis of liver scarring and inflammation.REC name
