Research summary
Atypical Parkinsonian syndromes such as Progressive supranuclear palsy, multiple system atrophy and corticobasal syndrome are rare diseases that look like Parkinson's disease but deteriorate much more rapidly and become dependant on others after a short period of time. People with these diseases often fall early in the disease and their movement may well be different from people with Parkinson's disease or other similar diseases.
As a result analysing movement in patients with these diseases may enable us to differentiate them from other diseases, giving more clarity to patients and their family. We may also be able to monitor their disease more easily, determining progression for the management of their disease and enabling us to see if research drug trials are effective.REC name
