Research summary
It is routine practise for the rehabilitation process to start immediately after total knee arthroplasty (TKA). The ideal analgesic modality would permit adequate knee flexion with minimal motor impairment and have no systemic side effects.
Following personal experience with sometimes high failure rate of infiltration technique in terms of pain relief, the principal investigator has developed a motor sparing knee block which we think has the potential to provide enhanced analgesia compared to local infiltration, whilst avoiding motor weakness and its concurrent deleterious effects on mobilisation after TKA
The aim is to undertake a double blinded randomised control study comparing the MSK block against the standard local infiltration regimen for a primary TKA.REC name
