Research summary
Patients with Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) often suffer from poor quality of life and many health problems. Research has shown that taking part in regular exercise can be very beneficial for their health and well being. However, exercise behaviour must be maintained on a regular basis in order to achieve long term benefits. A course of supervised hospital based exercise classes may be a good way of initiating exercise in inactive patients but may not give them the necessary knowledge and confidence to carry on exercising at home or in the community after the course has finished. Patients may require extra help to overcome their fears or problems in order for them to keep exercising. This feasibility study will explore the effectiveness of a pilot intervention designed to encourage continued self-directed exercise behaviour.
