Research summary
A retrospective NIS based on the secondary use of patient-level data obtained from a prior service evaluation and the Hospital Episode Statistics (HES) database. Patients who had a BNP blood test performed due to clinical suspicion of heart failure in primary care at Leeds Teaching Hospital between May 2012 and May 2017 will be anonymously and securely identified in the HES database by NHS digital following S251 ethical approval using previously collected service evaluation data.
Data will be analysed retrospectively for the 12 months prior to the index date (defined as the date of BNP test) to capture patient’s prior clinical characteristics and HCRU, and for a period of 24 months post index (or until death if sooner) to collect post BNP test data on HCRU and mortality
