Research summary
This will be a prospective, observational, cohort study designed to assess different aspects of the repeatability and reproducibility of multi-parametric abdominal MRI. The extent of variation between these multiple organs (liver, pancreas, aorta, kidney and spleen) as well as body composition will also be assessed. Healthy volunteers and those participants who are diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes will be recruited.
A participant will be asked to attend at least one study visit. Each study visit will involve the participant undergoing up to 4 MR-sequences (2 sequences per scanner) - spending approximately 60 minutes in each scanner, plus 10minutes of adjustment times between scans. In other words, a total scanning time of approximately 140 minutes. The 2 scans will be arranged on the same day. However, this may be spread over separate days depending on scanner availability and/or participant preference. A participant may also be asked to have an additional third MRI in a separate scanner. This will be scheduled for a time most convenient to the participant. This visit would involve spending approximately 60 minutes in each scanner, plus 10 minutes of adjustment times between each 30 minute scan.
Post-processing of the images collected will be done by Perspectum’s trained imaging and data scientists, and values compared with each other to determine whether they are reproduced reliably in different scans and on different scanners.
