Research summary
Methylphenidate is the first line treatment for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). However, we currently have a limited understanding of how the drug exerts its beneficial effects on cognitive function. The current study will investigate effects of a single dose of methylphenidate on performance of healthy volunteers on computerised tasks designed to measure different aspects of cognitive function – response inhibition, attention and learning. Participants will each complete two single-day study visits on which they will receive either MPH 40mg or placebo in a crossover design and complete a battery of cognitive tasks. Primary outcome measures will be accuracy (percent correct responses) and reaction time (speed of response) on the cognitive tasks
