Research summary
This study aims to see if people who have thoughts of suicide are able to report about how they are feeling on a mobile device. We are also looking into whether or not people who have thoughts of suicide will be able to use their phones to receive suggestions of things to do to help them feel better. We are interested in whether people find this intervention delivered through an internet enabled mobile feasible and acceptable. They will be sent a text message 10 times a day at random times with a link to the questions to complete. The participants will be given £10 to cover internet costs on their phone.During the first three days, people will be asked to fill in the diary to say how they are feeling. During the last three days, they will be asked to fill in the diary and prompted to undertake an activity of their choice.
NHS staff who are responsible for the care of people with suicidal thoughts will be approached. The staff will ask people they work with if they are interested in taking part in the research. The researcher will then contact those people who are interested in the study. Participants will be asked to complete a diary on a mobile phone for six days. They will be given a few suggestions of things to do that may help them feel better. These suggestions will include relaxation, watching funny clips on you tube or phoning a friend to talk to. They will be given £20 on completion of the study and the return of the phone, if borrowed. This is to reimburse the participants for their time and inconvenience. They will also be entered in a prize draw to win a £50 gift voucher for amazon.REC name
