Research summary
Gynaecological tumours may be benign, malignant or of uncertain malignant potential and biological behaviour. To offer the best treatment options it is important to understand the molecular changes that occur leading to tumour development and progression. This helps in identification of markers to allow early diagnosis, determination of tumour prognosis and development of targeted therapy. These parameters are of applicable value in malignant tumours and tumours of uncertain malignant potential. However, to achieve thorough understanding of the molecular changes in these tumours, it is usually important to study also their benign counterparts and normal tissue of the organs from which they arise. In this study we plan to investigate molecular changes in tumours of different parts of the female genital tract, including vulva, vagina, cervix, uterine body, fallopian tubes, ovaries and related pelvic / abdominal structures.
