Research summary
The immune response mediated by white blood cells (leucocytes) provides critical protection against infectious disease and cancer and is the source of vaccine-mediated protection. It is also the driver of autoimmune disease. In order to develop better medical interventions in all of these settings, we need to understand the cellular machinery and external signals that control leucocyte function, including how these cells are impacted by outside agents such as drugs and nutrients. This research seeks to increase our scientific knowledge about the molecular regulation of leucocytes from human peripheral blood and bone marrow to understand their characteristics, functions, and responses to lab-based interventions.
