Research summary
The Module 5 study is investigating specifically the experience men have of urinary incontinence after an operation on their prostate.
Over 42,000 men are diagnosed with prostate cancer across the UK every year (PCUK, 2015). Within the University Hospital Foundation NHS Trust Southampton (UHS), approximately 200 people will have surgery on their prostate in one year. It is common to experience urinary incontinence for varying lengths of time after an operation on your prostate.
It is hard to suggest the most appropriate and best support for patients in this situation if we have not asked people who have gone through this experience. Therefore this study aims to ask people who have had an operation on their prostate what their experience of urinary incontinence was like and the support they had and what would have improved it.
