The MitoBank will benefit patients with suspected or diagnosed mitochondrial disease. As mitochondrial diseases are rare conditions, the biobank will support deeper understanding of these conditions, expanding the knowledge of this group of rare disorders. This will give a valuable contribution to understanding disease mechanisms and pathophysiology and to development of new treatments. This will benefit patients, their relatives and carers, the medical teams managing their care, and the wider medical and scientific community interested in mitochondrial biology and disease.
