Research summary
Innovations which can improve care for respiratory patients include tools for identification, diagnosis, non-pharmacological treatment, self-management, remote monitoring and new methods of clinical support. We have developed a model of care incorporating key innovations for patients with asthma, COPD and undifferentiated breathlessness. This service is being implemented within Wessex CCGs. We need to assess whether the implementation of the service is effective, and how it can be adjusted, in addition to ascertaining whether the expected benefits for patients are realised, with changes to the process implimented during the project using a continous improvement model assessed with a participatory action research protocol.
All patients who attend a MISSION ABC clinic are eligible to be enrolled if they are able to give informed consent. In addition, their carers or family members will be invited to join the study if they attend an educational event. All health care professionals involved will also be invited.
Participants will be enrolled at or after the first community clinic. Further study assessments will be carried out remotely by post or phone.
Each participant will be followed up for 6 months from their first encounter.
