Research summary
There is growing evidence of the relationship between adjustment (dealing with a new situation), mindfulness (awareness of the present moment), self-esteem, coping strategies and emotional wellbeing (mood) in clinical and health populations. However, to date, there has been little research exploring the relations between these constructs in stroke survivors. A greater understanding of the relationship between these constructs among stroke survivors could assist in the development of treatments that specifically target psychological outcomes following stroke, which is crucial in stroke survivor’s rehabilitation process. Therefore the aim of the current study is to examine the relations between mindfulness, coping, psychological functioning and adjustment in stroke survivors.
