Research summary
The study will be comparing two different commercially avaliable toothpastes, one which containts argenine (an amino acid found in a normal diet) in order to see the differences in plaque (soft deposits on teeth) bacterial composition and activity using methods to analyse bacterial genetic information. Forty(40) participants who meet the inclusion/exclusion criteria will be enrolled in the study. Following enrollment, subjects will be asked to use the washout toothpaste for 1 week. Plaque will be collected at Baseline. All subjects then will be given the first toothpaste to use for the first 12 week treatment. After 12 weeks’ use, plaque will be collected. There will be a duplicate plaque collection up to 1 week after the 12 week collection. The participants then will be given the second toothpaste to use for 24 weeks. After 24 weeks’ use, plaque will
be collected. There will be a duplicate plaque collection up to 1 week after the 24 week collection. After this collection the study is concluded.REC name
