Research summary
Suitable participants, parents of deaf children who have had involvement with Tayside Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services, will be identified by the CI. She will liaise with them and outline the project being undertaken. If interested in receiving more information they will be sent a letter of invitation to participate and a participation information sheet. If they are then happy to continue they will be asked to return the enclosed 'reply slip', or notify the CI (by phone or email) who will then forward on the parents’ details to the PI. The PI will then meet with them to discuss further and if they agree to participate they will be consented as described below. The template for the structured interview will include questions on patients’ parents’ experiences/contact with mental health services and explore any communication difficulties encountered. With participants’ permission, the interview will be recorded using a Dictaphone, converted into note form to be analysed, and the main findings summarised in the final report.
