Research summary
This study is aimed at better understanding the relationship between alcohol attentional bias - the disproportionately high amount of attention directed towards alcohol related stimuli by higher alcohol consumers - and memory processes. By presenting alcohol dependent participants with multiple cognitive tasks, including an alphabetising task of alcohol-related words, and a subsequent recall task of a previous, neutral list of words, we will be able to glean whether alcohol attentional bias, observed in the timed alphabetising task significantly impacts memory, through the subsequent recall task.
