Research summary
Glaucoma is a leading cause of blindness in the UK. Eye drops are the first-line treatment. They must be used every day. Patients often have significant difficulty applying them. If the drug cannot get into the eye to lower the intro-ocular pressure, the patient may become blind.
This project is the first part of a programme of research to develop a method to deliver glaucoma drugs to the eye using contact lenses (suitable for patients with existing prescription and with perfect vision).
This study aims to assess the acceptability to patients of drug delivery by contact lenses using a questionnaire. It also aims to identify the key motivators for contact lens acceptability, and the determinants of patients safely and effectively using contact lenses.
