  • Research summary

The frequency of medicines adherence and factors associated with adherence in ID diabetic service users was unknown. The aims of the research were to (1) explore the frequency of diabetic medicines adherence in type 1 and type 2 mild to moderate intellectually disabled (ID) diabetic service users, (2) explore the association between depression, beliefs about medicines, self confidence, perceived level of social support and adherence to diabetes medications in the mild to moderate intellectually disabled diabetic population, and (3) to explore carers/significant others’ perceptions of diabetic medicines adherence in ID diabetic service users. To meet these aims, information would be collected from ID diabetic service users, carers and significant others. A total of 113 ID service users would be interviewed using validated questionnaires to explore whether there was an association between medicines adherence and the factors outlined above.
