Research summary
As patients get older, they may experience difficulties in taking their medicines because of changes that happen with the ageing process, such as difficulty in swallowing, or because of conditions like Parkinson's disease, Alzheimers or dementia.
The purpose of this research is to get a better knowledge of acceptability of medicines in the older population. The project will involve people over the age of 65 years who are already taking medicines. Information about how they take their medicines, how long it takes and how they feel (in terms of taste, ability to swallow, able to use inhalers) will be observed and recorded. Participants (people who are taking the medicines as well as those who are helping/ giving them) will be observed and the researcher will complete a short survey to record the information.
The study is being carried out in other European countries as well.REC name
