Research summary
This study will investigate the level of antidepressant, anxiolytic and hypnotic medication use amongst patients who have intestinal failure and receive nutrients intravenously (Home Parenteral Nutrition, HPN). It will also aim to compare antidepressant use in HPN patients against the general population.
The findings from this study will compliment previous research which investigated the level of negative affect and social support in the same cohort (Ablett et al, 2017). We will compare the level of psychological distress reported in this study with our findings on antidepressant use.
